
Malappuram, April 22: The death toll in the tragic Valparai road accident has risen to 10, after school bus driver Noushad Ali succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday.
Noushad Ali (39), who had been undergoing treatment at Coimbatore Medical College Hospital, died early in the morning while on ventilator support, according to reports.
The accident had earlier claimed the lives of several victims, including the headmistress of a government LP school, multiple teachers, a school staff member, a teacher from a nearby UP school, a teacher’s spouse, and a child.
Meanwhile, another injured person, Mohammed Fayis, continues to remain in critical condition in the intensive care unit. Doctors are closely monitoring his health.
Other injured victims are undergoing treatment in hospitals in Coimbatore and Kerala, with some showing signs of recovery.
The accident occurred when a group from Malappuram, including school staff and their families, were on a leisure trip to Valparai and their vehicle plunged into a gorge along the ghat road, leading to multiple casualties.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident, while the tragedy has left the local community in deep shock.
