NSS Chief Slams Congress Leadership; Warns Against Sidelining Seniority in CM Selection

CHANGANASSERY: In a move that has sent ripples through the political corridors of Kerala and Delhi, NSS General Secretary G. Sukumaran Nair has come down heavily on the Congress leadership's current approach to selecting the next Chief Minister. Speaking to the media at the NSS headquarters, Nair expressed strong displeasure over the reported sidelining of veteran leader Ramesh Chennithala.

"The Congress should not forget the support it received from various communities during the election," Nair stated. He emphasized that ignoring seniority and the contributions of leaders who stood by the party during its most difficult decade in the opposition would be a "grave mistake." While not naming V.D. Satheesan directly, Nair’s comments were seen as a sharp critique of the "new generation" shift favored by the High Command.

The NSS leader warned that political parties that ignore social realities and the sentiments of the communities that sustain them would eventually face the consequences. This open intervention has put the Congress High Command in a tight spot, as they must now weigh the benefits of a leadership transition against the risk of alienating a powerful community organization that forms a backbone of the UDF's vote bank.
