KOLLAM: In a harrowing incident that has sent shockwaves through the railway community, a minor child was allegedly sexually assaulted onboard the Palaruvi Express. The incident, which took place in the early hours of Saturday, led to the immediate arrest of the suspect following an outcry from fellow passengers.
The victim was traveling with family when the accused, identified as a middle-aged man, allegedly committed the offense while the train was in motion. Alerted by the child's distress, the family and co-passengers intervened and managed to restrain the individual until the train reached the next scheduled stop.
Upon arriving at the station, the Government Railway Police (GRP) were alerted. The officials took the suspect into custody immediately. Preliminary reports indicate that the police have registered a case under the stringent provisions of the POCSO Act.
Railway authorities have stated that a detailed investigation is underway to determine if there were any security lapses during the journey. The victim has been shifted to a nearby hospital for medical examination and is currently receiving support from child welfare officials.
